MAY.2019 Wickford Library Regeneration – Planning

Following a great success of 12-22 Wickford High Street project, JAIA Architects has submitted a full planning of a wider regeneration project in Wickford. The Wickford Library regeneration project located in the heart of Wickford, an old library location is proposed to be replaced with a large residential scheme of 65 units. The library to be relocated and renovated into the neighbouring site, in the Willows Centre. JAIA Architects have been appointed by the client to propose a regeneration scheme at the Wickford Library and Community Centre site since 2015. The current proposal has been finalised for a full planning application to create a 5 storey residential block with a total of 65 units, a commercial unit on the ground floor and a new library. By considering the surrounding context, JAIA has proposed separated massing to soften up the bulk visible from the street. The material used reflects all of the existing buildings in the neighbourhood. The proposed new Library within the refurbished Willow Shopping Centre will reduce the need to invest in the uphold of the existing library, whilst delivering a new library service which is more cost effective.
