St Michael & All Angels Church
St Michael & All Angels Church
St Michael & All Angels church, which was built and finished in 1867, is a Grade II listed building designed by a Victorian architect William Burges. The church design is in keeping with high Gothic revival architecture and is regarded as an importance piece of work by Burges. The building is all that remains of the former rural village which was demolished to make way for Gatwick International Airport. The church building was not in a good use until the current church organisation started to re-vibe the building with a growing congress. Currently, JAIA Architects have been working on various schemes with the client to make a way to re-vitalise the church building by providing crucial facilities including WCs and fellowship hall, while re-conciliating with Church of England, Historic England and Victorian Society for the approach. The church has always been the main focus of the scheme and the main principle in which the design has been based both in terms of layout and architectural articulation. The use of highly crafted materials and attention to detail presented in the proposals will ensure the extension makes a real and lasting positive contribution to the church.
