Project details

The site is on the axis that connects the historical walled city centre and the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Nicosia Local Plan proposes main civic buildings, urban squares and gardens on this axis which is to be lined with trees along its length. The Old GSP site is one of the major public spaces to be considered in the Plan. The Plan intends that the developments in the Old GSP local area provide support facilities to and revitalise the city centre. Studying the existing and future development of the city centre it is evident that this will be the main pedestrian plaza of Nicosia. JAIA’s proposal include a main civic plaza with museum, retail, rest places and meeting points;  a landmark canopy, which will celebrate the entrance to this major public space.
