Persistent Housing
Rio de Janeiro is one of the cities which have considerable increase of population growth in South America. Major part of this increase contributes to the increase of Favela (squatter settlement in Rio de Janeiro). They join existing Favela or even establish new favela settlement. Having been through 20c, the whole number of Favela in Rio de Janeiro exceeds 600. And it is still expanding the number and the size. Favelas have precariously and consistently occupied the hillside in Rio de Janeiro. Topographical information has been translated into structural materials through purposively developed diagram tools. By collecting rain water and preventing landslides, a membrane system of articulated timber segments construct climbing frameworks to allow vertical growth of housing.
