The listed house is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean in St. Aubin, Jersey island. The client needed a considerable workaround due to the building’s perilous structural condition in order to preserve the present home while expanding it to the lower level.
JAIA’s strategy was to make the most of the beauty of the sea views as the addition naturally interacted with the structure of the existing house. The plan also included a green roof, permeable paving, rainwater harvesting, greywater utilisation, and a ground source heat pump to create environmentally friendly house. To match existing, vernacular materials have also been used in the external finish. Bentcliffe House has been granted full planning approval.
