JAIA was appointed to convert the Ex-Burger King UK Headquarter building into 24 residential apartments via PD(Permitted Development) and design a new built scheme to accommodate an additional 24 residential units though a comprehensive planning process in Slough.
The challenge was to connect the newly proposed apartment to the unremarkable office building located at Bath Road and transform it into a tastefully built modern residential development, giving the entire apartment a unique personality.
By proposing a strategic design intervention that included newly inserting brick panels to the existing membrane of the office building, which stitch the existing fabric with the newly added 3 more storeys on top, JAIA Architects successfully transformed the existing office building into a very distinctive residential look. The articulated brick panel breaks up the large mass of the building and depicts a more interesting proportion. In order to carefully respect the context of the surroundings, the new extensions to the existing building step down to the back.
